Experience
I am working toward a Mathematics degree at the University of Georgia. When I have completed my academic requirements, I have a professional goal to work for Teach for America so I can gain familiarity teaching children from disadvantaged backgrounds. I would like to become a teacher at my mother's alma mater, Ballou Senior High School in Washington, D.C. Our nation's capital is underrepresented in colleges and universities. In fact, only 5% of pupils in the D.C. school district go on to attend college. I want to do my part in helping change that ratio by helping students who haven't enjoyed the same good fortune I have. Due to my math skills, I have experience tutoring a variety of people including fellow students, neighbors, and friends of my family. I've always been the "go-to person" for help with math. As a high school section leader and rank leader in the Redcoat Marching Band, I gained exposure working with different types of people and good leadership skills. Marching bands are composed of people from many different backgrounds and learning abilities. Every skill I learn becomes a part of my teaching style. When I'm not working on career goals or tutoring, I love to swim, play saxophone, and tennis.
