Education

I majored psychology, minored in French. I took a year of biology, a year of chemistry, one semester of physics, a year of calculus, a year of medieval European history. I studied art, music, literature, sociology, anthropology, political science, economics, Greek mythology, and developmental psychology. My master's and doctorate are in educational of the gifted. In the course of acquiring these degrees, I also studied statistics, more educational psychology, and how to teach reading.

Experience

I've been a teacher of the gifted in four states. I've taught science and social studies methods as well as a variety of education courses to pre-service teachers (aka education majors) and graduate students (aka present teachers). I've studied cognition and memory, which means that I know how people learn and remember. I've also studied how to explain content and how to arrange experiences so that students understand them at a deep level. I worked with an educational consortium that trained teachers in using Common Core, so I can work with students facing Milestone and other state exams. I was a National Merit Finalist with SAT scores of 720 Verbal and 700 Math. Both my sons were also Finalists, with higher scores than those. My ACT composite was a 35. I graduated from Vanderbilt University magna cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the liberal arts honor society.
