Experience

I have spent the past semester tutoring one kid in AP statistics and AP calculus. And then I tutored an additional child in Pre-Algebra. I also work at Grady hospital one afternoon a week in internal medicine. I spent the past summer as a camp counselor at Camp Scene Environmental Adventures. I spent all day with 2 coworkers with 24 children varying in age from 5-12, including overnight camp. I worked in the outdoors taking the children hiking, rock climbing, white water kayaking, white water rafting, caving, swimming. I worked with children with special needs of varying degrees. I spent the 2014 summer as a teaching assistant for a research proposal and presentation course. My main duty was teaching foreign students how to develop research questions, understand study design and how to present and write proficiently in English. I've babysat many kids from age 5 to 15. I've helped them with homework if they have needed it. I have also spent three summers teaching swimming lessons to kids from age 6 months to 12 years of age. I am comfortable teaching children at various levels. I am patient and organized. I love kids and hope to have a future in child health. Tutoring is a way to help kids beyond just babysitting. In college I have taken two semesters of biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and calculus. I have also taken physics, various writing classes from creative writing to research oriented. I've also specialized in physiology, hormone pathways and hormone behavior. I spent the 2013 summer conducting research on Population Health and Health Systems in Cape Town, South Africa and spent the previous two summers in Tanzania conducting research for a multicountry study named MAL-ED about child nutrition and enteric diseases. Also certified Wilderness Red Cross lifeguard with Wilderness first aid and CPR. I am also BLS certified in CPR for healthcare settings.
