Experience

I am a certified Spanish teacher and tutor with over 25 years experience. I use a communicative language teaching methodology. It is based on the idea that learning language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning. I encourage students to actively participate in learning, emphasizing real-life situations. I also have experience in working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, language, and disability backgrounds. In my classes students not only learn the second language but they also learn strategies for understanding. When learners are involved in real communication, their natural strategies for language acquisition will be used, and this will allow them to learn to use the language. I encourage students to actively participate in learning, emphasizing real-life situations. Functional communication activities require students to use their language resources to overcome an information gap or solve a problem (get meanings across).
