Experience
I recently relocated to Atlanta from Baltimore, MD. Prior to this move, I have been a professional educator with over twelve years of experience as an instructor and tutor at both the secondary and undergraduate levels. Most recently, I was an upper school history at independent schools Maryland and in New Jersey for seven years. I taught interdisciplinary courses in history and literature encompassing both the western and non-western world as well as specialized elective courses in philosophy, world religions, and the history of science. I also served as a faculty advisor to the writing center where I worked intensively with students on improving their academic writing skills. Before becoming a secondary school teacher, I taught at the university level both as an instructor and teaching assistant in undergraduate history classes for six years at Columbia University and Barnard College while engaged in my graduate studies. I have always found the one-on-one work that I do with my students to be the most intellectually enriching part of my career as an educator in independent schools, and, while teaching full-time, I have had opportunities to provide private tutoring services to families in Maryland and New Jersey, covering the subjects of history (World, European, and US), English literature, and Spanish language, with an emphasis on organization, study skills, and writing. As a tutor, my goal is to provide personalized academic and organizational support that complements students' classroom instruction by creating a warm and encouraging, yet structured and professional tutoring environment. My extensive experience in the classroom has given me a degree of insight into the needs of students and a set of skills that has made me highly successful as a tutor to students at both the secondary and collegiate levels.
