Sarah F.
Private tutor in Atlanta, GA
Education
I am a junior at the University of Mississippi currently completing my spring semester studying abroad in China with a 3.3 resident GPA. I am a member of the Chinese Flagship program at my school and have taken over 40 credit hours of intensive Chinese.
Experience
While in the past I have only tutored my peers unofficially, I am ready and finally have the free time to help other students. I want to be a tutor because my own Chinese language growth was stunted when I first started learning because I was so afraid to ask questions to my own tutor, especially those of Chinese background, as I didn't want to seem unintelligent. I believe this is a problem for a lot of students studying Chinese who are generally very intelligent and sometimes struggle with admitting that they have no idea what is going on. I believe I am qualified as I have studied abroad the past two summers in Qingdao and Harbin and am currently taking my second 400 level Chinese course as apart of my third study abroad program in Shanghai. In addition, I received an Intermediate High on my last OPIc in September 2014 and passed level four of the HSK in August 2012. I have taken over 40 credit hours of Chinese as well many other courses relating to Chinese culture and business that has provided me with a wide vocabulary as well as great speaking and reading and writing skills. I am a very understanding and patient tutor who knows firsthand how difficult it is to learn Mandarin Chinese when it's not your first language and would be happy to help students of any level or age.
