Experience
As a Speech-Language Pathologist in public schools, I have always worked with small groups and individual children. I want to be a tutor because such a role enables me to focus on ONE child and his/her family in a more relaxed setting. I think tutoring should be a conversation between child and instructor, one in which the child is able to relate academic tasks to daily experience. My preparation as SLP included courses in normal language development in younger and older children, as well as identification and treatment of language disorders. Recent continuing education has included literacy development in school-age children and instructional strategies for vocabulary growth. I have developed a data-base of resources about language function of school-age children and methods for improving comprehension and speech. I've built a library of high-interest reading and language games designed for various ages.

Hobbies
I am a singer. I love to sing and move around. I think that rhythm, music and movement, used selectively, are important aids to learning. I am fascinated by how children build concepts, and how that is reflected in language development; therefore, LISTENING to the child, and teaching him/her to listen, are very important in our time together.
